Carl LaVon Robinson, 89, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at a Topeka hospital. He was born on October 1, 1918 in Eskridge, the son of Carl William and Ethel M. Huitt Robinson. Carl resided in Topeka most of his life. He graduated from Topeka High School and was an Army veteran of WWII, serving as a radio operator in the South Pacific. Carl enjoyed many careers before retiring as a Realtor. He was a member of Capitol City Gun Club, the Moose Lodge, the Kaw Valley Bicycle Touring Club, enjoyed square dancing with the TopKan Twirlers Club and was a member of the local amateur radio operators club. Carl married Laura Ruth Herl. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Marvin and one sister, Lalah Clements. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Mary and six nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery. Carl will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
