Carl Gustafson
Carl A. Gustafson, 71, was called to his heavenly home January 31, 2007.
He was born March 15, 1935 in Topeka, Kansas the son of John Alfred and Esther Gustafson.
He was a graduate of Goff High School in 1953.
Carl served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. He was employed by Southwick Automotive, AM International, Data Card and retired from Midwest Cards in 2005.
Carl was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. He had previously served on the Board of Trustees and as Financial Secretary. Carl also served on the school board at Topeka Lutheran School as a trustee. Carl enjoyed woodworking and the time he spent at the library.
Carl married Elsie Ploger on August 28, 1965. She survives. He is also survived by his 4 children and 5 grandchildren: Andrea Mitchell, Emporia, Kansas; Sheila Duncan (Derrick), Olpe, Kansas; Audrey McGivern (Greg), Fort Worth, Texas; Carie Gustafson, Austin, Texas; grandchildren: MeKayla and Sara Mitchell; Matthew and Jenna Duncan; Henri McGivern and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Marie Ewing.
Carl will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Sunday, February 4th with visitation from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue. Services will be held Monday, February 5th at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 Fillmore. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Shawnee County Public Library or Topeka Lutheran School in care of Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel.
