Carl E. "Andy" Laird, 83, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Midland Hospice.
He was born on February 1, 1922, son of Charles and Reba Pardee Laird. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in Europe. He retired from the Topeka Police Department and later from BCBS.
Carl was married to June and had three children. They divorced. He then married Doris and he had four stepchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister, and his son, Andrew Allen.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; daughter, Linnie Winters, Meriden; sons, James Sargent Laird, Orange Park, FL, and Steve C. Smith, Burleson, TX; one brother, Duane of PA; stepchildren, Cathy Oborny, Pam Maxwell, Brenda Tallman, and Ron Potts; 19 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
There will not be a formal service for Andy; however, the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, December 31st at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Capper Foundation, Shriner's Hospitals c/o Arab Temple Topeka, or Midland Hospice.
