Carl Dean Ward, 78, of Lawrence, formerly of Topeka, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016.
He was born in Linn County, near Blue Mound, KS, the son of Harry and Dorothy (McAdam) Ward. He graduated from Mound City High School, with the class of 1955.
Carl began his printing career at age 14 with the Mound City weekly newspaper, then Centralia weekly newspaper, and the Lawrence Journal-World. He retired from Mainline Printing in Topeka after 40 years of employment. Carl was a member of Stull United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling after retirement.
Carl married Irma Shattuck May 23, 1958, in Prescott, KS. She survives of the home. Other survivors include their three children, Rachel (Stan) Bachman of Overland Park, KS, Lynelle (Dave) Foust of Topeka, KS, Dean (Ginger) Ward of Lakeville, MN; two sisters, Linda Klee and Carol Klopfenstein both of Mound City, KS; two brothers, Richard Klopfenstein of Mound City and Doug Klopfenstein of Bremerton, WA; five grandchildren, Chelsea (Greg) Torres, Kayla (David) Bennett, Carly Bachman, Evan Ward, and Allison Ward; two great-grandsons, Lucas and Isaac Torres; and many extended relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Stull United Methodist Church, 1596 E 250 Rd., Lawrence, KS. A graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at Prescott Cemetery, Prescott, KS. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, KS 66604.
