Ebert Staats, 89, Topeka, passed away September 19, 2009. He was born December 30, 1919, in Coats, KS, the son of Floyd and Mattie Staats.
On June 6, 1942, he married Joy E. Shupe in Kingman, KS. She preceded him in death in 2008. Ebert grew up in the Coats, KS area on the family farm. He joined the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. After returning from service, he went back to the family farm. He then attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO, earning his Pastoral Degree. After serving as a pastor for several years, Ebert moved to Topeka and began a career with DuPont, retiring in 1981.
Survivors include a daughter, Jan (Mike) Remboldt; two grandsons, Zac and Sam Remboldt; twin brother, Ed Staats; and brothers, Richard and Merle Staats.
He was preceded in death by a son, James; daughter Georgia Lee Menendez; three sisters; and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial to follow at Penwell Gabel Cemetery & Mausoleum. Mr. Staats will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the funeral home, with the family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th, Topeka, KS 66614 or to First Southern Baptist Church, 1912 SW Gage, Topeka, KS 66604.
