Charles "Vince" Cook, 74, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020.
He was born August 27, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Charles and Marjorie G. (Spacek) Cook. He was a 1964 graduate of Hayden High School and attended Washburn University in Topeka. He served in the U. S. Army serving in the Vietnam War.
Vince was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 2006. He served as a Councilman for the City of Topeka and served in the Kansas House of Representatives. He was also a realtor for Coldwell Banker Griffith and Blair Realty in Topeka.
He was baptized at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and later became a member of First Christian Church of Topeka.
Vince married Carol Ruth Hochard in 1966 in Topeka. To this union there were four children, Jason, Vicky, Tracy and Matt. They later divorced. He married Shirley K. Cook on June 3, 1988 in Topeka. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include four children, Jason (Rosalind) Cook of Silver Lake, KS, Tracy (Tracey) Best of Broken Arrow, OK and Matt Cook of Topeka; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five step children, T.J. (Scott) Bradford of Kansas City, KS, Terri (Chip) Janda of Topeka, Joel (Nikki) Fager of Alma, KS, Dan (Kate) Fager of Pottsboro, TX and Richard (Lauren) Fager of Topeka; 14 step-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren and two expected.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Vicky Aker; and his brother, Jim Cook.
Vince enjoyed spending time with family and was proud of his family's softball team, Nine Plus Tax. He loved baseball, especially St. Louis Cardinals. K.C. Royals Baseball, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas Jayhawks, cigars, having morning coffee with his buddies, cooking, spending time in his garage, making stained glass, going to car races, collecting baseball cards and miniature railroad memorabilia.
Honoring his request, cremation is planned. A private memorial service is planned. Penwell-Gabel Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in Topeka is assisting the family.
