C. Alice Wilson, 94, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Aldersgate Village in Topeka. She was born on May 21, 1916 in Lyndon, the daughter of Grant R. and R. Mabel Thompson Culver.
She received a B.S. degree in Education from Emporia State Teachers College. Alice resided most of her life in Topeka. Alice began her teaching career in the rural school system of Osage County, KS, taught several years in the Carbondale, KS school system and was a 6th grade elementary school teacher at McEchron Elementary school for 8 years before retiring in 1976. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for women educators.
Alice married Frank E. Wilson on June 30, 1948 in Lyndon. He preceded her in death on May 23, 2000. She was also preceded in death by one brother, Duane Culver and one sister, Lois Failor. Survivors include one son, Kent A. Wilson of Hollywood, CA, one sister; Lelia Bond of Emmett, and fourteen nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in Klasse Chapel at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Lyndon Cemetery, Lyndon, KS. Alice will lie in state from 2:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to First United Methodist Church, 600 S.W.
