Byron R. "Barney" Braymen, Topeka, died Wednesday, March 29, 2017.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving during World War II from March 1944 to June 1946.
He was born February 28, 1926, near Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Byron W. and Effie Hood Braymen. He graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1943. He then received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University in 1949. He was a member of the Iowa State Alumni Association.
He was a civil engineer and spent his working career in the construction area, first with Carrothers Construction Company in Paola, KS, then with Koss Construction Company in Topeka. He was a founder of BRB Contractors, Inc. in Topeka in 1959. He retired in 1991.
He was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Kansas Contractors Association. He was on the board of directors of Kaw Valley State Bank for over
30 years until 2003. He also served on the Board of St. Francis Health Center Foundation for six years and served on the Board of Directors of Mayfair Homeowners Association.
He married Joan Burham Braymen on March 21, 1948 at Shenandoah, Iowa. She died on April 18, 2010. They spent many years together playing golf and traveling.
Survivors include two sons, Stephen R. Braymen, Topeka and Richard A. Braymen, Montgomery, TX; one daughter, Ann E. Schmiedeler (Marty), Topeka; and three grandchildren, Kelsey (Caleb) Hopkins, Anthony Schmiedeler and Perry Schmiedeler and one brother, Kenneth Braymen.
Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2017 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Private interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery.
