Burton H. "Burt" Edson, 91, Topeka, died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at an Overland Park Hospital.
He was born Oct. 15, 1914 in Shawnee County, the son of Charles L. and Daisy Godwin Edson. He graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1932. He was a member of the former Seabrook United Church of Christ, where he served as a trustee for several years.
He married Elmarene Price on April 23, 1935 in Hiawatha. She preceded him in death on Aug. 18, 1999. Survivors include a son, Dean Edson and wife, Betty, Auburn, two daughters, Janice Haun and husband, Gene, Lenexa, and Karen Edson and partner, Niki Horino, Englewood, CO, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Don Edson on April 28, 1985.
Mr. Edson was treasurer of the Mission Township Board during the 1950's. He was a member of the Washburn Rural High School Board of Education from 1955 through 1966. From 1935 to 1944, he was a livestock buyer for Morrell Packing Company in Topeka. He returned to the family farm in 1944 and farmed until 1952 when he began working for Jayhawk Construction Co. Mr. Edson joined the component home division of Whelan Lumber Company and retired from there in 1977.
Mr. Edson was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Friday in Wesley Hall on the campus of Aldersgate Village, 7220 SW Asbury Drive. Private inurnment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
