Buddy B. Bowles

Buddy B. Bowles was born Dec. 28th, 1930 in McCook, Neb. and died March 23, 2007 at McCrite Plaza Health Center in Topeka, KS with his family by his side.

Buddy grew up in Atwood, Kansas, the son of James and Metha Buck Bowles. With many close friends he graduated from Atwood High School in the class of 1948.

Buddy married Creta Ann Ebeling, formerly of Concordia, KS, on Sept. 18th, 1949 and moved to his father's farm in Atwood, where he farmed and raised cattle for 13 years. In 1953 he joined the Masonic Lodge in Atwood. Buddy loved his Masonic work and was Past Master and 50-year member of Atwood Masonic Lodge #164. In 1960 he was Worthy Patron of Atwood Radiant Chapter of Eastern Star #229.

In keeping with the family's tradition, Buddy became a Shriner at the Isis Temple in Salina, KS in 1961 and eventually transferred to the Arab Temple in Topeka. Buddy was active in various Shrine groups and events, donating his time to transporting children to the Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

In 1962, Buddy decided to finish his college education and moved his family to Lawrence where he became a student in the School of Business at the University of Kansas, graduating in 1964 with a degree in accounting. He became a Life Member of the KU Alumni Association. In Lawrence he was president of the Lawrence Shrine Club and enjoyed driving their antique Model A truck in parades.


Buddy loved to travel, as well as go camping and fishing with family and friends. Upon his retirement in 1992 from the State of Kansas, Buddy and Creta motor-homed to many states including Alaska, traveled to Canada, and spent winters in New Mexico, Texas and Florida.

Survivors are his wife of 57 years, Creta Ann of the home in Topeka, son Steven Bowles and wife Gail of Kansas City, daughter Judi Wolfe and husband Richard of Lawrence, daughter Lana Stagner and husband Murray of Grapevine, Texas, grandchildren Heather Likes and husband Carter of Olathe, Tara Wolfe of Olympia, WA, Laura Wolfe and husband Jeremy Hess of Lawrence, Christopher Bowles of Kansas City, Shauna Stagner, Grapevine, TX, great-grandchildren Jackson and Makensie Likes, Olathe, and brothers Lyle Bowles, Jimmy Bowles, and sister Ada Lee Cox, all of Atwood.

At his request, Buddy was cremated and no services are to be held. The family will hold inurnment privately. Memorials may be made to the Transportation Children's Fund, Arab Temple, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka KS 66612, or Midland Hospice of Topeka, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS, 66606.
