Bryce W. Kresie, Sr.

March 3, 1924 — July 23, 2013

Bryce Warner Kresie passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013. He was born March 3, 1924 near Auburn, Kansas to Fred C. Kresie and Bernice F. Kresie. He attended public schools in Auburn and graduated from Auburn High School. He attended Kansas University and later graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He was a letterman in baseball at that university. He also played Ban Johnson and amateur baseball in Kansas and became a member of the all-state team in both leagues.

Bryce was a navy veteran of World War II and was separated as an ensign after four years of service.

He worked 32 years for The Kansas Power and Light Company, which is now called Westar. He was director of employee relations.

He was a member of the Shawnee Country Club, where he served on the board of directors. He was also a director of the Red Cross, Shawnee Mental Health, and Shawnee Federal Savings and Loan Association. He was a member of the Auburn Masonic Lodge for over 60 years.

He married Mary Lewis on June 10, 1950. He is survived by his wife, Mary and his son, Bryce Kresie, Jr. He is preceded in death by his son Kevin L. Kresie and his daughter Carol D. Best. Other survivors include seven grandchildren: Emily Harrington, Anne Kresie, Zoe Kresie, Connor Kresie, Spenser Kresie, Sierra Best, and Bryce Best, and two great-grandchildren: Lydia Harrington and Penelope Harrington.

Inurnment will be 9 a.m., Monday, July 29, at Mount Hope Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 10 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 SW 21 St., Topeka. Visitation will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church. Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
