Bruce Langley Myers, 73, Topeka, departed this life on April 25, 2016 at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Bruce was born to Margaret and Allen Myers on March 25, 1943 in Topeka. He was raised on the family farm, and although he spent several years living in Florida, he returned to the farm, which he always considered home.
Bruce graduated from Highland Park High School in 1961, attended Kansas University (where he also obtained his Master's degree in Accounting) and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After his military service, he became a Certified Public Accountant.
In 1977, Bruce and his business partner Darrell Stauffer, both former accounting professors at Washburn University in Topeka, founded Myers and Stauffer, CPA. Myers and Stauffer grew to become a nationally known entity serving 47 states. Bruce has remained active in the firm, and his influence, dedication to high quality service and love for the work has always guided the staff.
Bruce was an active member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Jane; two daughters, Amy Myers (Ange Wessel) and Heather Myers, Topeka; daughter, Diane Schawe, Wichita; brother, Byrom Myers, Tribune; five grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Bruce's life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2016 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral in Topeka. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Street, Topeka.
An endowment has been established at the Washburn University Foundation to support scholarships for students in the School of Business, Accounting program.
