Bruce Frederick

March 29, 1924 — June 11, 2018

Bruce Frederick, 94, formerly of Topeka, passed away on June 11, 2018 in Leawood, Kansas.

He was born March 29, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas to Maurice and Mary Frederick.

He graduated from Topeka High School in 1942. During World War II he served proudly in the United States Navy aboard the USS South Dakota. Following his discharge, he completed his bachelor's degree at Washburn University and began a long career in public education. A few years later, he completed his masters degree in educational administration at the University of Kansas.

He was extremely proud of his work in the field of education. He retired from Seaman Public Schools, USD 345, after 36 years of service with the district. He served as a teacher, vice principal, principal and assistant superintendent of secondary education. He was the principal of Seaman High at the time the current high school was built in the early 1970s. He loved to tell stories of that time. The Media Studio at Seaman High School is named in his honor.

Bruce loved time with his kids. He was an avid listener of jazz and followed current events his entire life. He loved to be "up to date". In his retirement, he also enjoyed quiet days at Lake Shawnee fishing for crappie.

He is survived by his daughter Susan (Ron) Alexander of Overland Park, grandson Tyler (Kelley) Alexander, great-grandson Graham Alexander, and two nieces; Sherry and Laurie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Jean Frederick and his sister Beverly.

A private, family service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Seaman Education Advantage Foundation, 901 NW Lyman Road, Topeka, KS 66618.
