Brant "Smiley" Ray Hensley, 67, of Hoyt, KS, took his last breath Saturday, December 24, 2022 surrounded by his family.
Brant was born August 18, 1955 in Bucklin, KS to Orvis and Maxine (Gum) Hensley. He married the love of his life, Linda, on September 24, 1994, combining their families and raising four children together, Brandon, Blaine, Danielle and Christopher.
Brant loved life and that love could be felt whenever you were in his presence. His smile lit up every room he walked into and he was always up for a good joke. He spent many years working in the cattle industry most notably at Isaac Trucking, Hilker Trucking and Cargill. He had a special ability to give you directions to anywhere from anywhere without looking at a map due to his many years driving and assisting drivers. When he wasn't working (and sometimes when he was), you could find him fishing on whatever lake was closest. Many family vacations included his love for fishing as the family would travel across the country to try out a different fishing location. His favorites included Buffalo Bill Reservoir in Wyoming, Lake Texhoma in Oklahoma and Milford Lake in Kansas. These trips and eventual moves always included his family. He also enjoyed hunting, playing golf, grilling and being outdoors. He loved his family dearly and would do whatever needed to be done for them.
Brant was preceded in death by his father, Orvis, mother, Maxine, step father, Harry Scheib, two brothers, Mark Scheib and Bryce Hensley, one sister, Lynda Brothers, and a son, Christopher Kruse. He is survived by his wife, Linda, children Brandon (Crosbi) Hensley, Blaine (Jennifer and children Braiden and MaKenna) Hensley, Danielle (Fritz and children Caden, Sam, Addison) Kruse-Thoele, a daughter-in-law Courtney (Chad and children Josh, Christian, Ashton, Rylan), his brother Bryan (Diane) and sister Anita (Bob) and several nieces and nephews, and grand dogs.
A celebration of Smiley's life will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at Hoover Pavilion, 108 4th Ave, Dodge City, KS 67801 from 3:00pm-6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to WildTrust Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism512 SE 25th Ave., Pratt, KS 67124-8174.
