Boyce R. McCarter, 77, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2011 at Midland Hospice House. Born June 29, 1933 in Topeka, Boyce was the youngest of the five children of James Clinton and Martha Avis King McCarter. He attended Highland Park High School, graduating in 1951. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Washburn University in 1956. Boyce worked as an Information Technology professional for many years. He was employed by EDS, but spent the majority of his career with, and retired from, the State of Kansas. Boyce enjoyed woodworking and the companionship of friends. A devoted family man, Boyce loved activities that included his siblings and involved his grandchildren. Boyce married JoAnn (Jann) Rickert on November 24, 1954. She survives. Boyce is survived by his children; Michelle Gomez, Kirk (Bronda) McCarter, Michael (Nancy) McCarter, Kitt (Andy) Heineken, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Bryce McCarter, Joyce Metzler, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Jack and Duane McCarter. The family invites friends to participate in a remembrance of Boyce's life.
A memorial ceremony will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Inurnment will follow in the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
