Bonnie Jean Haahr, resident of Lake Wabaunsee, KS, passed away April 17, 2013. She was born on July 3, 1941 in Waukegan, IL, the daughter of John and Nancy Maver. She graduated from Libertyville High School in Libertyville, IL, and then attended Valparaiso University to study mechanical engineering. She received her degree from Pasadena College in Pasadena, CA. She also attended California State College in Los Angeles and Westmar College in Le Mars, IA. She married Jerry M. Haahr in Pasadena, CA, on September 5, 1964. They had four children.
When Bonnie was in California, she was employed as a designer of electric capacitors, some of which were used in the Apollo Space Program. In 1968, she moved to Le Mars, IA, where she was active in promoting Girl Scouts and was a Board Member of the Sioux Valley Girl Scout Council. In 1978, she and her family moved to Topeka, KS. She was active in promoting gifted education in USD 501 and continued to be active in Girl Scouts. She felt her biggest accomplishment was raising four successful children. She was employed by Yellow Freight and was a realtor in Topeka. Upon retirement, she moved to Lake Wabaunsee. She was a life-long KU basketball fan, Chicago Cubs fan, and also enjoyed knitting.
She is survived by her husband and four children, Heather (Denny) Gepford of Mansfield, TX., Holly (Pascal) Haahr-Pouquet of Paris, France, Charles (Kristina) Haahr of El Dorado, KS and Lorna (Chris) Eaton of Shawnee, KS. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Lucy and Tess Pouquet, Isaac and Isabelle Haahr, and William and Jack Eaton.
Private graveside services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, 3616 SW 6th, Topeka, KS. Her family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21st, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka.
