On October 25, 1933, Bobbie Dean May was born to Altha Beatrice May, in Lansing, Kansas. Bob entered the promised Life Eternal on September 15th, 2018.
Shortly thereafter, "Bea" married Everett Joe "Nubbins" Barth. Bobbie grew up in Hutchinson, Kansas, graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1951. During Jr. High School and High School, his major interest was music, playing trumpet in the band and singing Tenor in the choirs.
The following September he entered what is now Wichita State University as a music major. Being a Naval Reservist, he volunteered for active duty in March of 1952. Following Boot Camp, he was assigned to Naval Air Station, Tongue Point, Astoria, Oregon. While stationed there, he was allowed to join the local base dance band, where he played at USO clubs in Astoria and Portland, Oregon and other military locations in the area. When not playing in the dance band, he was a Yeoman in the library of his duty section.
After being "Released for the convenience of the Government" in February, 1954, he lived for a short while in Olympia, Washington where he attended the University of Washington, before returning to Hutchinson, where he attended Hutchinson Jr. College. He found employment and took a correspondence course in accounting, which led to a career primarily in Bookkeeping.
In March of 1957, he met his love on a "blind date". On November 24, 1957, Jean Eldeen Fast said "I Do". Bob then worked at the Pratt Equity Exchange (a farmer Cooperative) for about one year before taking a job as Office Manager at Burroughs Corporation in Wichita, Kansas. Stephen Allen May and Kristel Marie May (Guyle) were lovingly adopted in 1963 and 1965.
Other farmer cooperative positions were in Blue Rapids, Lindsborg, Fredonia and St. Marys.
Bob took the income tax course of H & R Block in 1989 continued working with H & R Block for 24 years before retiring in 2014. Bob also was the bookkeeper at First Lutheran Church for many years and retired in a January 2018.
Bob was blessed with four Grandchildren: Jessica Guyle (Aaron) of Auburn, Jeremiah Guyle (Hannah) of Topeka, Sierra Guyle (Lukas) of Topeka, Stephen May II of Joplin and seven Great-Grandchildren: Tucker, Dalton, Ryne, Liam, Xander, Keaton and Kord.
Bob is survived by his wife Jean, of almost 61 years, daughter Kristel Guyle, grandkids & great-grandkids. Other survivors, brother and sister in law, Robert & Joan Tolar of Hutchinson, several nieces, nephews & cousins all from Jeans side of the family, and was preceded in death by his son Stephen May (January 2018).
Bob was cremated and memorial services will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1234 SW Fairlawn Rd. Topeka, Ks 66604, Friday, September 28th, 2018 at 1:30 pm. Luncheon to follow services at church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to First Lutheran Church or Midland Hospice House.
