Billye June Bray-Bradley was born May 5, 1918, in Bokchito, OK, the daughter of Banna and Jennings "Bryan" Abernathy.
Her early years were spent in Muskogee, OK where she lived until 1929, when the family moved to Topeka.
She attended Boswell Jr. High and graduated from Topeka High School in 1935 where she and Mr. Bray were King & Queen of the All School Party. She attended Washburn College where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Social Sorority. While in college she worked for WIBW Radio in a Drama Series, "The Coleman Family".
She married Charles S. Bray on June 12, 1937. He preceded her in death on December 7, 1970.
Mrs. Bray-Bradley was employed by Grace Episcopal Cathedral from 1971 to 1983 as Coordinator of Christian Education. She studied for the Diaconate, but choose not to be ordained; however, was designated a Certified Church Worker in the Episcopal Church. She was the first woman Lay Chalice Bearer at the Cathedral.
She studied Pastoral Counseling at the Menninger Foundation for a year. Billye was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral; Junior League of Topeka; Topeka Country Club, Shawnee County Historical Society. She served on the Board of Directors of Kansas Children's Service League; Junior League, EP Chapter PEO; Vestry of Grace Cathedral serving as a Jr. Warden; Jazz Workshop and Topeka Civic Theatre.
She married Jack R. Bradley, Jr. April 16, 1990. He passed away June 1991.
Survivors include a son, Barry L. Bray and wife, Judy; daughter, Judy Stone and husband, John all of Topeka; brother, Howard Abernathy, Overland Park, KS; four grandchildren: Heather Nordstrom (Lafayette, CO), C. Barry Bray (Topeka), Gary D. Stone (Overland Park, KS) and Brett C. Stone (Greenwood Village, CO); six great grandchildren; three step-children: Janet Snyder (Topeka), Joyce Hummer (Shawnee, KS) and Michael J. Bradley (Evergreen, CO) and six step-grandchildren.
A Burial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral followed by Inurnment in Chapel of the Resurrection. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
