Billy Marvin Hunt, 77, a retired United Methodist minister, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at his home in Vassar.

He was born Sept. 6, 1928 in Brazil, Indiana, the son of Ross and Marie Tilley Hunt.

He married Marilyn Miller on April 10, 1947 in Brazil, a union that lasted for 59 years.

He was called by God into the ministry and graduated from Asbury College, Wilmore, KY, in 1957, and from Asbury Theological Seminary in 1960. While in school he served student charges in Kentucky.

Bill was a United Methodist pastor for 50 years in Nemaha Co., Oakland United Methodist, Topeka, First United Methodist, Coffeyville, and Crestview United Methodist, Topeka. Following his retirement, he pastored Alamo Palms RV Park, Alamo, TX, for several years. He also served as the first police chaplain and as a chaplain for the 190th Refueling Group at Forbes.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marilyn, a son, Rick Hunt and wife, Marcia, Overland Park, a daughter-in-law, Jackie Crane Hunt, Parkville, MO; four grandsons, and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Ted Hunt on Jan. 18, 1989.

Bill loved sports and music, especially barbershop and Gospel quartets. He sang for years in a mixed quartet with his wife.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday at Crestview United Methodist Church. Cremation will follow the service. Rev. Hunt will lie in state after noon today, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. this evening.
