Billy George Chambers, 76, passed away Monday, September 18, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Billy was born April 30, 1941, in Pittsburg, KS, to Vearl Clyde and Clara May (Hughes) Chambers. He attended Hutchinson High School. From 1958 to 1963 he served in the 12th Special Forces, Green Berets Army Reserves. Later he received a degree in civil engineering drafting from Topeka Technical College and a certificate in civil technology from Kaw Area Vocational Technical School. Billy worked for the City of Topeka as a Design Tech Engineer II for 18 years until his retirement. He married Marcia K. Levin on June 11, 1994, in Topeka, KS. Billy was a member of the Arab Shrine and the Orient Lodge #51, AF & AM.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Adam Chambers of Topeka, KS, William Chambers of Meriden, KS, and Anthony Chambers of St. Louis, MO; 13 grandchildren; and three siblings, Jim Chambers of Hutchinson, Shirley Chambers of Wichita, KS, and Karen Guthrie of Wichita, KS.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Vearlyn Chambers.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Countryside United Methodist Church, 3221 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka, KS 66611. The family will receive friends following the service.
