Bill Wayne Thornburgh, 71, Topeka, passed away on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
Bill was born August 19, 1940 in North Little Rock, Arkansas, the son of Hubert A. and Rebecca B. (McClure) Thornburgh. He graduated from Burlingame High School and attended Ottawa University.
Bill began his appraisal career in the mid 1960's with Midwest Appraisal Company, assisting with a mass appraisal of Shawnee County, Kansas. He then managed mass appraisal projects for Midwest Appraisal in multiple counties in Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska through the mid 1990's. When not involved in Mass Appraisa,l he worked as an independent fee appraiser performing appraisals on a broad range of properties including commercial, office, industrial and agricultural. He was affiliated with Taggart & Associates in Topeka. In 2002 Bill left the private sector and went to work as the County appraiser for the Lincoln County, Nebraska Assessor's Office (North Platte) and held this position until his retirement in 2008. His career in the appraisal industry spanned nearly 50 years and many associates benefited from his teaching skills and patience in training. He left a sea of appraisal knowledge and close bonds to those he worked with.
Bill married Dailene Cuthbertson on May 27, 1962. They later divorced. Survivors include daughters, Rhonda Thornburgh, Topeka, Vonda Neelly, Gallatin, TN, Cynda Worrell, Lafayette, IN; grandchildren, Christopher Neelly, Brett Neelly, Adam Neelly, David Worrell, Kyle Worrell, Kami Worrell and Kalli Worrell; brothers, Bob Thornburgh, Burlingame, Jerald Thornburgh, Carbondale; and sisters, Beulah Faye Sherwood, Carbondale, Cheryl Thornburgh, Piedmont, OK, Carolyn Farris, Carbondale, and Marilyn Stults, Smithton, MO; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. at the Osawatomie Cemetery in Osawatomie, KS. Bill will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
