Beverly "Jean" Allen, 73, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital.
She was born on August 8, 1938 in Topeka, the daughter of Veora (Stallons) Lyda and Daniel Long, and was raised by Bernell and Veora Lyda.
Jean graduated from Topeka High School in 1956 and attended Clark School of Business.
Mrs. Allen has worked for the State of Kansas and Sante Fe Railroad as a keypunch operator, the for IBM as an accountant, where she retired after 23 years of service.
Her early years were spent camping, boating and fishing at Pomona Lake with family and friends. She also enjoyed many years bowling with her mother, Veora, in a women's league in Meadow Lanes Bowling Alley.
She loved playing golf, sewing and crocheting, but her passion was quilting, which helped her establish a 15 year home business after retirement. She created many beautiful quilts and afghans she lovingly gave to her family and friends.
Jean married Boyd Allen on July 30, 1993, at the putting clock at the Western Hills Golf Course in Topeka.
She and her husband Boyd traveled each winter to Wellton, AZ, where they golf, played cards, and enjoyed wherever the day took them.
She is survived by her husband, Boyd; her daughter, Becky (Brad) Hiebsch; two stepsons, Michael and Ron Allen; five grandchildren, Audrie, Adam and Adrienne Hiebsch, Tosha and Holly Allen; 3 great-granddaughters, Kaylyn Ann Hiebsch, Makayla and Kaydence Phillips.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernell and Veora Lyda.
A Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2012, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1310 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, 66604. A visitation will be held one hour prior.
