Betty Simmons
Betty M. Simmons, 78, of Carbondale, passed away Thursday June 30 at a Topeka hospital.
She was born May 3 1927 in Elgin, NE., the daughter of Reuben and Anna Reinke Bergman.
She graduated from Elgin High School in 1944. She worked for 11 years for the base exchange at Forbes Air Force Base. She then went to work for K-Mart West for 19 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship and was active in the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the Osage County Historical Society.
Survivors include two daughters; Pamela Brennan and her husband Frank of Silver Lake and Debra Powell and her husband Gary of Lecompton; two sons, Ronald Simmons and his wife Vicki of Topeka and Ernest Simmons of Olpe, seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday July 5 at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship, 430 Commercial, Carbondale, KS 66414. Inurnment will be in Park Center Cemetery in Elgin, NE. at a later date.
