Memorial services will be held on Thursday May 25th at 11:00 am at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Funeral Home for Betty Jean Schirmer, 98, Overbrook, KS, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21st, 2023, at an Overbrook care facility.
She was born April 29th, 1925, in rural Douglas County, to Leonard and Thelma (Woodruff) Warren. She graduated from Overbrook High School and received her teaching certificate from Baker University.
Betty taught in several one-room schoolhouses in the Douglas County area, farmed, and worked for the Kansas Department of Revenue where she retired in 1993 while being a dedicated spouse and mother of four children.
Betty married Frank David Schirmer on February 14, 1946, in Overbrook. He preceded her in death on March 29th, 2003. Together they shared over 57 years farming, gardening, and enjoying their family.
Survivors include four children: Meri Kay (Larry) Finley, Dana Dean (Donna) Schirmer, Karen Sue (Robert) Berroth, and Michael Dee (Brenda) Schirmer; two brothers Gayle and Larry Warren; one sister, Sherry Tuckel; eight grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Gerald, Gary, and Darrel Warren.
Betty loved to read, listen to and sing music, drive a tractor, feed cattle, and spend as much time with her family as possible.
All friends and family are invited to meet at 10:00 am prior to the service. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.
