Betty R. Burnett born on September 21, 1932 in Melvern, Kansas, Betty Rae Burnett completed her journey in life on January 31, 2010 in Litchfield Park, Arizona. She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, and a brother. Betty graduated from Topeka High School in 1950 with honor and distinction. Her journey took her to Washburn University where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority, Dolphin Club and Modern Dance Club. During that time, she also worked full-time for the legal department for the State of Kansas. Degrees in education and business followed in 1954. After graduation, Sinclair Oil and Gas snapped her up, transferring her to Denver, Colorado in 1958. She then worked for the Northwest Exploration Company. While in Denver she became a member of the Denver Petroleum Landman's Association, the American Petroleum Landman's Association and the Mineral Law Institute. On a personal level, she was a rabid Bronco Fan, played Bridge and was a member of Epiphany Episcopal Church. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Cemetery. Burial will follow. She will not lie in state prior to services. Memorial contributions in her memory may be given to the Washburn Endowment Association, 1729 S.W. MacVicar Ave., Topeka, KS 66604, which gives scholarships to needy students for higher education. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
