Betty Poos
Betty J. Poos, 88, of Topeka, passed away Saturday May 17, 2008 in the care of Midland Hospice. She was born Oct. 30, 1919 in Topeka, KS to John and Jessie (McClelland) Cusic.
Betty graduated Highland ParkHigh School in 1937. She married Alan Poos Sept. 18, 1949 in the home of Betty's parents in Topeka, KS.
She was a faithful member of Quivira Heights Church of Christ, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Woman's Club of Topeka. Betty was employed for 5 years with the SN County Extension Office and 37 years at the VA Hospital, retiring as secretary to the Chief of Staff. Betty and her husband were instrumental in starting the first Water Ski Club in Topeka and continued to water ski until the age of 75.
She is preceded in death by her parents and twin brothers Randell and Wendell. Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Alan Poos, nieces and nephews.
Betty will lie in state beginning 2 p.m., Tuesday. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wed. May 21, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. the evening of May 20th.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be written to American Cancer Society or Midland Hospice Care.
