Elizabeth Louise "Betty Lou" (Shepard) Rasure, 92, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015.

Betty was born May 2, 1923, in Topeka, Kansas. She was the daughter of William Thomas and Helen (Schock) Shepard. She attended Topeka public schools, graduating in 1941 from Topeka High School. She also attended Washburn University. Betty worked for the Santa Fe Railway for 14 years. She also worked for the Collins Marketing Research Service and was the Executive Director of Sales and Marketing Executives of Topeka from 1980 to 1990.

Betty was a tireless community volunteer and served on a number of boards in the city of Topeka. She was the Area PTA President in 1967-68 and, during her presidency, libraries were started in the Topeka public grade schools. As Vice President of the Area PTA, she started the first School Clothing Bank at Monroe School. Betty served on the board of the original Gifted Program for the Topeka public schools. She served on the board of the Kaw Valley Girl Scout Council. She served two terms on the board of the Topeka High Historical Society and was a past President. She served on the Foundation Board of the City Parks and Recreation Department. Betty was also a long-time volunteer at the historic Ward Meade Park and was a past President of the Ward Meade Board. She was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church where she served on many boards.

She was a former member of Beulah Chapter #34 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Every Womens Resource, a member of Kaw Valley Girl Scouts, Shawnee Republican Women, and was a Precinct Committee Woman. She was a member of Shawnee Country Club for fifty years and was a past Regent of John Haupt Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Betty was married to J. David Rasure on November 24, 1949. He passed away on March 1, 1997. She is survived by son, Gregory C. Rasure (wife, Karen), of Fremont, CA; daughter, Robin (Rasure) Roeper (husband, Phil) of Belle Mead, NJ; three grandsons; and two granddaughters.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the Mount Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604. Entombment to follow at the Mount Hope Courtyard Mausoleum.
