Betty Lou Adams, 75, of Topeka passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Midland Hospice House. She was born May 5, 1928 in Seneca, MO the daughter of Otis S. and Mary Marguarett White Nutting.
Betty graduated from Lawrence Memorial High School in 1946. She worked for Hallmark and Bell Telephone; she retired from Santa Fe Railway in May 1990 after 39 years of service. Betty was an active member of Central Church of Christ, Santa Fe Women's Club, Hallmark Retirees Club and the National Association of Retired Railroad Workers.
On June 11, 1946 in Danforth Chapel on the University of Kansas Campus, in Lawrence she married William F. Adams; who survives. Betty is also survived by her daughters Cynthia Marie Adams Cotton and her husband David of Farmington, NM, Marcia Beth Adams Lightsey and her husband Tony of Broken Arrow, OK and Kimberley Renee Adams Bruening and her husband Ron of Topeka. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Adam Cotton, Ben Cotton, Lisa Beth Hutchins, Brent William Lightsey, Austin J. Bruening and Clayton L. Bruening. Her only sister Ernestine Nutting Walker-Brown and her husband Earl Brown of Topeka, also survives.
Betty will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel on Thursday, March 18, 2004 from 4 to 8 pm and all day Friday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 pm.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 20, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Mr. Jim DuBose, Minister of The Central Church of Christ will be officiating the service. Graveside services will follow at Lawrence Memorial Cemetery, Lawrence, KS
