Betty Jo Letourneau
Mrs. Betty Jo Letourneau, 68, of Topeka, died Friday evening, March 4, 2005, at Stormont-Vail Hospital Regional Health Care Center in Topeka. She was born Jan. 30, 1937, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the daughter of Harold E. and Louise E. Knaup Vaughan. Betty received a bachelor s degree in nursing from Marymount College in Salina. She worked as a registered nurse at Stormont-Vail Regional Health Care Center, St. Francis Medical Center and in the offices of Dr. William Roy, Dr. Robert Pfeutze and Dr. Ted Young. She was a member of St. Matthew s Catholic Church and the church s altar society, Kansas Nursing Association, American Bowling Congress and National Bowling Congress. She married Gerald J. Letourneau on Sept. 3, 1960, at Concordia. He survives of the home in Topeka. Other survivors include a daughter, Louise M. Pound, Bayou Vista, Texas; two sons, Michael J. Letourneau and Dr. Edward N. Letourneau, both of Topeka; three sisters, Sister Louise Vaughan and Sister Miriam Vaughan, both of Concordia, and Dorothy A. Otott, The Villages, Fla.; a brother, James E. Vaughan, Springfield, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Jared N. Letourneau, Joshua J. Letourneau, Julie V. Letourneau, Michelle K. Letourneau and Steven N. Letourneau, all of Topeka. Betty was preceded in death by a son, Paul E. Letourneau, in 1994, and a sister, Sister Rose Vaughan, in 2003. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew s Catholic Church. Internment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Topeka. Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. A parish rosary service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.
