Betty Jane LaRue, 80, passed away at Aldersgate Village on February 5, 2006. She was born in Nevada, MO, daughter of William and Gladys Wyatt, on January 14, 1926.
Betty attended Nevada schools and graduated from high school there. In 1944 she married Wilbur L. LaRue, was married for 27 years and raised four children.
She obtained a bachelors degree from Washburn University in 1976 and a masters degree from Emporia State University in 1979. She was employed as a social worker at Stormont Vail Regional Health Center until retirement.
Betty had many interests including travel, reading, writing, singing and playing the piano. Her yard was one big flower garden and she was a Master Gardener for many years. She has a sister in law, Elizabeth Wyatt of Baton Rouge, LA, sons Michael and wife Shari of Overbrook, KS, Christopher and wife Karen of Tucson, AZ, Dennis and wife June of Gardner, KS, and daughter Judy Green of Warrensburg, MO. She has 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library, 1515 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66604.
Cremation is planned. There will be a remembrance party in the spring. Time and date will be announced later. Mrs. LaRue's cremated remains will be scattered near her home town in Missouri.
