Betty L. Yarrington, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 12, 1922 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of John Melvern and Mayme Mason Thoes.
Betty graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO. She worked for the Avon Corporation during her husband, Victor's WWII service. Betty spent the rest of her life as a devoted homemaker. She had resided in Atchison, KS for 3 years prior to moving to Topeka in 1959 where she and her husband began Vic Yarrington Oldsmobile, a business that thrived for 43 years.
Betty was a member of First Congregational Church where she proudly helped with the annual thrift sale in the jewelry department, volunteered for the Stormont-Vail Ladies Auxiliary where she worked in the gift shop and participated in the Ladies Shrine Auxiliary. She loved fishing at Roaring River with her husband, time spent in their home in Arizona, gardening and playing Bridge.
Betty married Victor Wayne Yarrington, Jr. on May 4, 1940 in Richmond, MO. He preceded her in death on June 5, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Judith Ann in 1953 and her son, Stephen Craig in 2011. Survivors include one daughter, Vicki Groves of Topeka, daughter-in-laws, Julie Clanton and Kaye Bassett, six grandchildren, Melissa Krug, Courtney Farmwald, Matthew Yarrington, Adam Groves, Carrie Robinson and Michael Yarrington, eight great-grandchildren, Grace, Quentin, Kailee, Megan, Addison, Cooper, Norah and Nolan.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Shriners Children Hospitals Travel Fund c/o Arab Shrine, 1305 S. Kansas Ave., Topeka, KS 66612.
