Betty Kimmell

Mrs. Betty L. Kimmell,73, of Topeka passed away Thursday, September 19, 2002 in a local hospital. She was born in rural Alfalfa County, Oklahoma on July 20, 1929 to Henry John and Elisa Mae Alberding Liggenstoffer.

Mrs. Kimmell grew up attending small country schools, but graduated from high school in Kiowa, Kansas in 1947. Mrs. Kimmell attended Oklahoma A&M College, (now known as Oklahoma State University). She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Topeka and a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Kiowa. An active member for many years of the Kansas Cattlewomens Assoc., she also held the seat of President for one term.

In 1985 the Kimmell's moved to Topeka, allowing Dr. Kimmell to become Livestock Commissioner of the Kansas Department of Animal Health.

On October 14, 1950 in Cherokee, Oklahoma she married A. T. Kimmell, D.V.M., he survives and lives in Topeka.

Son- Bill Kimmell of Canyon, TX; his wife, Nik; Grandsons Cody & Cade.

Son- Richard Kimmell, M.D. of Olathe, KS; his wife Pattie;Grandson Matt Angel

Son- Jeff Kimmell, Ph.D. of Kiowa, KS; his wife Sharon;Granddaughter Moira
Grandson Spencer

Daughter- Karen Ann Buchman of Ft. Sumner,N.M.; her husband Rex
Granddaughters; Darcy
Dana
Hannah
Sisters: Frances Schupbach of Kiowa, KS
Verda Miller of Kiowa, KS
Many neices and nephews and a host of friends.

Mrs. Kimmell will lie in state on Sunday, September 22, 2002 beginning at 10:00am, the family will receive friends from 7-8pm, at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Funeral services will be held in Otterbein United Methodist Church, on Monday September 23, 2002 at 1:00pm.

On Tuesday September 24, 2002, Mrs. Kimmell's family will receive friends at First United Methodist Church, Kiowa, Kansas from 9-10am. Family gravside services will be in Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa, Kansas.
