Betty Jean Scarborough, 59, Topeka, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born Oct. 31, 1948 in Hughes, Arkansas, the daughter of Posh and Gertrude Webster Alston and had lived in Topeka over 20 years.
Mrs. Scarborough worked for the State of Kansas for 13 years in the records department and was a member of East Side Church of Christ.
She married Otis Sylvester Scarborough on June 13, 1972 in St. Louis, MO. He died Oct. 19, 2002. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Beulah Mae Davis.
Survivors include her son, Frank Leonard Alston; three sisters, Hattie Mae Clark (Joe), Fannie Mae Whitaker (Reginald), and Lucille Curls (Lawrence); three grandchildren and one great-grandchild all in Topeka; a host of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Judy Davis.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Mrs. Scarborough will lie in state after noon Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
