Betty Jane Nelson, 100, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2015.
She was born May 26, 1915 in Topeka, the daughter of William Frederick and Emma Christina (Nelson) Boettcher. She was 1933 graduate of Topeka High School.
Betty was employed by the State of Kansas for 32 years before retiring.
She attended Faith Lutheran Church in Topeka.
Betty married Leroy Gustave Nelson on August 6, 1946 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Gustave Nelson on January 4, 1993; a granddaughter, Kimberley Sue Sutton; a sister, Marjorie Kohl; and a brother, William Frederick Boettcher II. Survivors include a daughter, Marcia C. Paden, Topeka; five grandchildren, Ross Hollywood Sutton II, Philip G. Nelson, Matthew R. Nelson, Nicholas A. E. Nelson, Christopher S. Nelson; and several great-grandchildren.
A funeral ceremony will be 10 a.m., Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Mt. Hope Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka. Private interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m., Friday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m.
