Betty Jane Marling

Betty Jane Marling, 88, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 4 at her home.

She was born February 5, 1918 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Otto and Floye Magee.

She grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School in 1936. Betty Jane worked as secretary to Ed Marling where she met her husband Harry. They married in 1939 in Nevada. They lived in Hayward, CA and Topeka, where they settled in 1956. She then worked as secretary to attorney Gerald Goodell. Betty retired as Executive Secretary of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas and its board in 1980 where she worked for founding president, Sam Barham.

She is survived by her husband, Harry; two children, Randy Marling and wife Betty Jo of O'Fallon, IL and Paula Haisch and husband Robert of Lawrence, KS; stepson Deril Schmitt and wife Donna of Mission Viejo, CA; grandchildren Miguel Marling of O'Fallon, IL, Gretchen McCarter, Leawood, KS, Patrick Salsbury II, Overland Park,KS and step-grandchildren, Michael Schmitt, Matt Schmitt and Derek Schmitt of Mission Viejo,CA, three great grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Marling was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 8 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Private family inurnment will be in Rochester Cemetery.
