Betty J. Marshall, 88, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014.
She was born September 3, 1925 in Douglass, Kansas, the daughter of Erven and Clara (Messenger) Brooks. She was a graduate of Augusta High School.
Mrs. Marshall was employed as executive secretary for Capitol Federal Savings until she was married.
She was a member of Grace Point Church, Topeka and attended Carbondale Assembly of God Church when in Tulsa, OK. She was also a member of the Gideons Auxiliary.
Betty married John C. Marshall on April 12, 1953 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on March 28, 2006. Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Raymond) Dunn, Topeka and Ruth Ellen (Tim) Dunn, Tulsa, OK; a foreign exchange daughter, Pauline (Gordon) Davy, Gloucestershire, England; seven grandchildren, John Daniel (Michelle) Dunn, Seattle, WA, Joel David (Stacy) Dunn, San Antonio, TX, Joshua Paul (Sarah) Dunn, Oklahoma City, OK, Jeffrey Lee Dunn, Oklahoma City, OK, Jennifer Grace (Josh) Burgess, Mounds, OK, Jordan Marshall Dunn, Tulsa, OK and Justin Allen Dunn, Tulsa, OK; and seven great-grandchildren, Chapman Alexander Dunn, Griffin Justus Dunn, Jentzen David Dunn, Brockman Daniel Dunn, Krista Malise Dunn, Charity Grace Dunn and Alexia Justine Dunn.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Orville Ray and Kenneth V. Brooks.
She enjoyed cooking, baking cookies, writing letters to missionaries every month, and distributing Scriptures to doctors' offices and nurses on behalf of the Gideons Auxiliary.
A funeral ceremony will be at 11 a.m., Monday, February 17, 2014 at Grace Point Church, 5400 SW Huntoon St., Topeka, KS 66604. Interment will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka. Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m., Sunday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, P.O.
