Betty J. Calderwood, 89, Topeka, passed away Friday, March 21, 2014 at McCrite Plaza.
Betty was born May 31, 1924 in Herington, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Monroe) Fahringer. She grew up in Topeka and graduated from Topeka High School.
She had worked for Silver Lake State Bank and later was a receptionist for Menninger's for 19 years, retiring in 1992.
She was a member of Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church. She volunteered for the American Cancer Society and Let There Be Light Ministries.
Betty married Rollie Calderwood on September 13, 1947. He died February 11, 1967. Survivors include daughters, Terri (Roger) Stover, Kerrville, TX, Cindy (Tom) Brown, Topeka; grandchildren, Brent Stover, Suzann Stover; great-grandson, Taylor Stover; 2 step-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers and 1 sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel. Burial will follow at Prairie Home Cemetery. Betty will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Monday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
