Betty Elder

Betty J. Stitt Elder, 88, of Topeka, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Midland Hospice House. She was born on August 17, 1916 in Topeka, the daughter of Byron F. and Dale F. Isreal Stitt. She graduated from Highland Park High School. She was employed by Crosby Brothers. She was a member of the Methodist Church. She was active with the Helping Hands Humane Society. She married Charles R. "Dick" Elder on September 6, 1941 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on November 4, 1990. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, June Rigg and Mary Ann Ireland. Survivors include one brother, Jerry Stitt of Topeka and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Elder will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. As per her request, the casket will remain closed.
