Betty A. Edkin, 81, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012.
Betty, a retired nurse, was born July 9, 1931, in Anthon, Iowa, the oldest of 4 children, to Henry W. Peters & Olive Sharkey Peters. She was residing at Aldersgate Village since January 2012. She was an avid reader and loved scrapbooking and history.
Betty is survived by her 4 sons, Michael Harris of Springfield, MO, Scott Harris, Jeffrey Harris and Wayne Edkin II of Topeka, KS, 2 daughters Joan Veronie of Topeka, KS, and Marla Long of Whiteville, NC, 19 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, 2 sisters Helen Briggle of Danbury, IA, Barbara Franzkowiak of Ida Grove, IA, and a brother James Peters of Mapleton, IA, and numerous other family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Wayne Edkin; daughter Linda Selbach; grandson Thomas Scott (Tommy) Harris and 2 great grandsons Fredrick Studebaker and Seth Harris.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia, Topeka. Interment will follow at Rochester Cemetery, Topeka, KS.
Betty will lie in state after 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, where the family will have a Parish Prayer Service at 5:30 p.m. and receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
