Betty Irene Deitrich, 87, of Carbondale, Kansas, passed away December 25th, 2023, at her home, surrounded by family.
She was born March 30th, 1936, in Fayette, Missouri to Harold C. Figgins and Maggie I. Smothers.
Betty married Bill L. Deitrich on October 2nd, 1963, in Clinton, Missouri.
The newlyweds moved to Carbondale, Kansas in 1964. In 1968 she started her licensed home daycare business and continued this for nearly forty years. This provided her with the opportunity to care for her six children and later provide care for her grandchildren. She was a very strong, active, independent woman that loved to bake, read, and spend time with her family and her beloved dog, Milo.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold; husband, Bill; stepfather, George Lambert; son, Gerald Keeting; and mother, Maggie.
Betty is survived by five children (and spouses): Michael (Brenda) Keeting, Fayetteville, AR, Susan Keeting, Helena, MT, Debbie (Aaron) Howey, Carbondale, KS, Lesa (Scott) Hite, Carbondale, KS, Amy (Thad) Wellshear, Topeka, KS; twelve grandchildren: Angela, Michelle, Damon, Megan, Jared, Missy, Christina, Jeremy, Melissa, Billy, Kirsten, Kaleb; fifteen great-grandchildren; and brother, Harold (Mary) Figgins, Omaha, NE.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Friday, December 29th, 2023, Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka.
Graveside Service will be at the Carbondale Cemetery, Saturday, December 30th at 1:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice and the Carbondale City Library.
