Bette I. Watson, 85, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Aldersgate Village, Topeka.
She was born October 1, 1928, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Otto and Mildred I. (Mitchell) Barton. She was a 1950 graduate of Stormont-Vail School Bette I. Watson, 85, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Aldersgate Village, Topeka.
She was born October 1, 1928, in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Otto and Mildred I. (Mitchell) Barton. She was a 1950 graduate of Stormont-Vail School of Nursing. She held a B.A. from Washburn University and a M.S. degree from Kansas State University.
Mrs. Watson was a registered nurse and was employed by the Topeka VA Hospital, Stormont-Vail Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and KAW Area Technical School. She was a member of the American Nurses Association and District #1 of the Kansas State Nurses Association. She assisted in establishing Diabetes Education at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was a member of American Diabetes Education Association and a former member of Lowman United Methodist Church, Topeka.
Bette married Randall J. Watson on July 29, 1951 in Oskaloosa, KS. He preceded her in death on October 6, 1981. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Watson in 2012, her parents and three brothers, Robert, Otto "Alf" and Richard Barton.
Survivors include a grandson, Scott Randall Watson, Le Grand, IA; a brother, Ross (Marie) Barton, Topeka; a sister, Mary Schuman, Calgary, Alberta, Canada; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation is planned. A memorial ceremony will be 10 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Wesley Hall at Aldersgate Village, Topeka. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to Stormont-Vail Student Scholarship Fund, 1500 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, KS 66604 or the donor's choice.
