Beth H. Skoog, 74, of Topeka, passed away, Sunday June 20, 2004.
She was born June 18, 1930 in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, to Pauline Elvira Stuart Henry and Walter Wilson Henry. They preceded her in death as did her stepfather, Roland G. Ruppenthal. She attended Falls Church High School and Madison College, both in Virginia.
She worked for five years as Executive Secretary to the managing partner of Merrill, Lynch, Pierce, Fenner, and Smith in Washington, D.C. .
She met Ralph Skoog, of Topeka, while he was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. They married on November 19, 1953, and moved to Topeka to raise their family.
She was elected and served as President of both the Shawnee County and the Second Congressional District, Republican Federation of Women, and as Vice-Chair of the Shawnee County Republican Party.
She is survived by her husband Ralph, her sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Sandra Skoog of Longview, TX, Peter Skoog, DVM, of Alva, OK, Carl and Johanna Skoog, of Libertyville, IL, Curt and Amy Skoog, of Overland Park, KS, and Edward Skoog and Jill Marquis, of New Orleans, LA; her brothers- and sisters-in-law Betty and Norman Bomar, Astrid and Robert Reed, all of Topeka, and Sue Skoog, of Ottawa, KS. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Allison, Andrew, Austin, Chelsea, Hunter, Reed, and Will Skoog, her extended family and neighbors of Potwin Place, all of whom were blessed by knowing her.
She was kind, caring, and giving. She enjoyed conversation, reading, and bridge. She will be missed, mourned, and remembered by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will be at Highland Cemetery in Osage County. Mrs. Skoog will lie in state after 12:00 noon today at the funeral home where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. today.
