Beth Marie Thompson Edmonds, 84, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2009. She was born March 28, 1925 in Lost Springs, Kansas, the daughter of Earnest Daryl and Marie Reeser Thompson. She graduated from Lost Springs High School in 1942, and from Warrensburg State College, Warrensburg, Missouri in 1946. Beth married Leland R. Edmonds on December 25, 1947, at Lost Springs, Kansas. He preceded her in death on January 23, 1975 after 27 years of marriage.
Mrs. Edmonds taught school in Oskaloosa, Lost Springs, Lawrence, Wichita and Topeka, Kansas and in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She retired from USD 501 in Topeka in 1986. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by one sister, Thelma Ruth Thompson Dekle, four children, John Thompson Edmonds of Great Bend, Kansas, Carol Beth Edmonds of Topeka, Ann Marie Edmonds Bartos of Naperville, Illinois and David Lee Edmonds of Topeka, five grandchildren, Katherine Alma Edmonds of Topeka, Jennifer Elizabeth Bartos of Naperville, Illinois, Sarah Katherine Bartos of Naperville, Illinois, Mitchell Ochree Edmonds of Topeka and Reese Leland Edmonds of Topeka, and two great-granddaughters, Claire Adelaide Edmonds and Elise Madeline Edmonds.
Mrs. Edmonds will lie in state on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Topeka. Graveside service will be on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Lost Spring Cemetery in Lost Springs, Kansas.
