Bessie Alberta Johnson

Bessie Kobiskie- Williams Johnson, 101, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023.

She was born September 20, 1921, in Alma, Kansas, the daughter of William and Dollie (Williams) Kobiskie. She graduated from Alma High School.

After graduation, Bessie went to work for the Bell Telephone Company. She worked her way up through the company and became an Executive Assistant. She retired after 40 years of service to the company.

Bessie married Gale Williams. He unfortunately passed during World War II. She later married Donald Harry Johnson on July 18, 1947. Bessie and Donald had one child, Jay. They bought their first home together in 1947 and Bessie lived there until she moved into the Healthcare Resort a few years ago.

She was a dedicated member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral for 70 years. She served on the Alter Guild. Bessie was also part of the Telephone Pioneers and a sewing club.

Bessie loved spend time in the kitchen baking bread and deserts and will be remember for her wonderful cooking. She also had a passion for sewing and needle point and even sewed her own clothing when she was younger. Bessie grew a beautiful rose garden.

She leaves behind her son, Jay Donald (Kristy) Johnson of Overland Park, Kansas and her two grandchildren, Kira Johnson of Palm Bay, FL and Charles Blomstrom of Palm Bay, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Minnie Grensing, Otto Kobiskie, Ruby Kraus and Charles Kobiskie.

A memorial ceremony will be held at 10:00 am., Thursday, July 27, 2023, at Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 SW 8th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
