Bessie M. Holden
Age 84, of Topeka, passed away August 30, 2002 at Topeka Adult Care Center.
She was born March 2, 1918 near Keats, Kansas, the daughter of James E and Emma Matthews Clark.
She moved south of Manhattan, Kansas in 1925 and attended a one room schoolhouse through 8th grade. She then moved to Washington, Kansas and graduated in 1936.
She worked as a United Bell Telephone Operator and as a Sennate Chamber Telephone Operator during the Legislature sessions until she retired.
She married Edgar Williams "Bill" Holden Jr. , June 12, 1938 and moved to Topeka. He died in 1995.
Survivors inculde:
Two Daughters: Sylvia Levings Topeka, Ks.
Kathy Koch Topeka, Ks.
One Brother: Aaron Clark St. George, Ks.
Two Sisters: Vivian Edwards Lancaster, California
Jean Ellis Topeka, Ks.
Four grandchildren and one great grandson.
Services will be Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 1:00 PM at First Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Holden will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel from 1:00pm-9:00pm., Tuesday, September 3, 2002. The family will receive friends and realtives from 7pm-8pm
Tuesday, September 3, 2002 at the funeral home.
