Bertha A. Hammond, 88, of Topeka, died on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Manor Care.
Bertha was born on July 9, 1924 in Topeka, Kansas to Clyde W. and Nora (McEwen) Hankey.
She was married to Melvin R. Hammond in Topeka on May 8, 1949. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1997.
She is survived by six daughters, Virginia (Garry) Meyer of Atchison; Karen Griffin, Sandra Hammond, Sharon (Stephen) Beck, Jeanette Hammond, and Nancy Hammond, all of Topeka; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Orson of Topeka.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; by her parents, by three brothers, and by two sisters.
Funeral ceremonies will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery in Effingham, KS. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
