Bernita Lorene Saphir, 91, of Topeka, formerly of Tulsa, OK., passed away Thursday Feb. 9 2006 at Brewster Place Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past nine years.
Bernita was born November 14, 1914 in Neodesha, KS., the daughter of Leonard and Eudora Powell.
She married Roland Bailey on May 25, 1932. They later divorced. She married William Saphir on June 5, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on December 30, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Wayne Bailey, two sisters, Maxine Holt of Palm Springs, CA. and Leta Faye Lohr of Tulsa, OK; two brothers, James Powell of Eureka, KS. and Larry Powell of Tulsa, OK.
Bernita is survived by one son, Jack K. Baileyand wife Janet, Elkton, MD.; two sisters Alta Barnett, Highland, IN., Jackie Wilson, Topeka; a brother, Leonard Powell, New Braunfels, TX; six grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren and many other relatives.
Cremation is planned. Family inurnment will be at a later date in Tulsa, OK. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of Arrangements.
