Bernice Wingerson

Bernice A. "Bea" Wingerson, 77, of Topeka, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.

She was born November, 13, 1931 in Paradise, KS, the daughter of
Clifford Day and Zelma Pearl (Sigle) Sherbon.

After graduating from Wilson High School, Council Grove, KS in 1949, where she was a drum majorette, Bernice attended Clarks Business School and Washburn University.

Bernice married Bruce Alton Wingerson in Topeka on September 3, 1950. They later
divorced.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral, serving on the Altar Guild and was a Daughter of the King. She enjoyed crocheting "prayer shawls", coordinating this ministry for Grace Cathedral.

Her favorite pastimes included gardening, cooking, knitting, sewing, bridge and dinner clubs. Grandma Bea was supportive and very interested in her grandchildren's activities and accomplishments.

She worked in administration for various attorneys, anesthesiologists, lobbyists and the Kansas legislature. She retired as a secretary for St. Phillip's Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her children, Kent (Kelly) Wingerson; Carol (Bill) Kampsen, both of Tecumseh, KS and Steve (Annette) Wingerson of Smith Center, KS; grandchildren, Jason and David Wingerson; Brandon Gillette, Elijah and Liam Kampsen; Alexis, Landon and Sienna Wingerson.

Preceding her in death were her parents and sister, Leone Roswurm.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2009 at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Inurnment will follow in the Chapel of the Resurrection.

Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
