Bernice Loreene Myers Parks, 85, passed away Wednesday morning, January 13th.
Bernice was born in Vliets, KS on July 12th, 1924. She attended and graduated from Vermillion High School in 1942 where she proudly returned yearly for 66 years for the alumni banquet. Bernice met Clifford Dale Parks whom she married on January 15th, 1949. Bernice resided in Topeka most of her life before moving to Holton, KS in 1997.
Bernice lived a very full life which included playing cards and scrabble with family and friends, square dancing, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, bird watching, quilting and crocheting, eating (especially her sweets), following her kids and grandkids to all their activities and supporting them proudly (games, concerts, etc), spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids, having a house full of people, and simply enjoying life especially when it was her birthday. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents Ralph E. and Luceal Myers, her husband of 40 years Clifford Dale Parks and their stillborn son Ralph James Parks, her brothers Percy Myers and Gerald Myers and her beloved sister-in-law Esther Parks.
Survivors include her two daughters Mercille (Harold) Givens, Holton, and Donetta (Jerry) Martens, Topeka; her five grandchildren, Nicole Martens (Barry Gentry), Topeka, Tammy Givens (Manny Brown), Mullinville, Jeff (Heather) Martens, Topeka, Tricia Martens, Topeka, and Cliff Givens, Holton; her two great-grandchildren Tyler and Haleigh Martens, Topeka; her brother Charles R. Myers, sister Martha (Bick) Holmes both of Topeka; along with 11 nieces and two nephews and many others.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 16 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with graveside services immediately following at West Lawn Memorial Gardens on SW Auburn Road & I-70. Bernice will lie in state after 3 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association, 4125 SW Gage Center Dr., Suite LL-15, Topeka, KS 66604.
