Bernice A. McMahon, 88, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2022.
She was born August 28, 1933, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of John and Edna (Windett) Schreiner. She graduated from Lecompton High School in 1951.
Bernice started working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company at the age of 16 and worked as a telephone operator. She retired after 31 years of service.
She was a member of First Christian Church for many years and enjoyed helping with various events. Bernice was also a member of Topeka Life Pioneers Club, Primetimers, Newcomers and was active in local events at Aldersgate Retirement Community.
Bernice loved cooking big meals and having family and friends over to enjoy the cooking. She loved traveling on bus trips and took a road trip along the Route 66 with her friends. She also enjoyed putting flowers out in the summer time.
Survivors include her two sons, Clifford (Teresa) C. Hook and Kevin (Melissa) A. Hook and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her parents and father of her children, Charles A. Hook.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 11:00 am. on Friday, April 22, 2022, at Aldersgate Village at Wesley Hall, 7220 SW Asbury Dr, Topeka, Kansas 66614. Inurnment will take place at Overbrook Cemetery in Overbrook, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 1880 SW Gage, Topeka, KS 66604 or Aldersgate Village Good Samaritan Fund 7220 SW Asbury Drive, Topeka, KS 66614.
